This week we hear from Adam our Maintenance Coordinator:
At creation, God told Adam and Eve to fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. It wasn’t just for Adam and Eve to maintain the status quo and be satisfied with that, made in the image and likeness of the great creator God they were to go out and make the world a better place to be. This still applies to us today. We continue to see God’s glory in creation as lives are transformed for the better by God’s grace and mercy in Jesus. At Caring For Life we are so thankful to experience both.
As Maintenance Coordinator, I have been so blessed to be part of the family at Crag House Farm. Each day we continue to experience God’s goodness and faithfulness. When I first arrived, I was introduced as ‘this is Adam our new Maintenance Coordinator…’ the reply would frequently be ‘do you want our ‘to do’ list now or later?’
There have been many lists since then. They come with a real satisfaction of fixing what is broken, organizing the things to be maintained and hopefully making things better. This could mean routine daily checks around the farm or making sure heating systems function efficiently. Each day is different from mending a leaking gutter or unblocking an overflowing drain.
But it all comes with an overwhelming purpose of why Caring For Life exists and the wonderful provision and stewardship of the farm, as well helping to improve the living facilities at our two supported homes. Thankfully, I quickly discovered I don’t need to know how to fix everything but with a real sense of teamwork, often one skill set complementing another, there is often a helping hand to get things done.
I have the privilege of coming alongside staff, beneficiaries, and projects to share a real sense of achievement as tasks are completed. These are opportunities to share life and the love of Jesus together.
It’s certainly more than a 9-5 job. Hopefully not just maintaining things but learning what it means to be fruitful, making a difference, and praying each day that what is done helps to demonstrate God’s love, goodness and grace, asking that each day would be filled with the knowledge of glory.
